PROMOTING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES!

Breast Cancer is a disease that strikes both women and men. With early detection the fight we can win. We’re raising awareness to help save the life of a sister, a brother, a husband or wife!

Hi! My name is Tuti Tender Heart and I'm on a mission, along with my buddy Tia, to raise awareness about the urgent need for early detection in the fight against breast cancer, the leading cause of death among women between the ages of forty and fifty-five. Women of all ages and backgrounds should be proactive about breast health because statistics show that in the United States, one out of every eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.  Alarmingly, thirteen million women, forty years of age and older, have never had a mammogram, the premier medical test available for a diagnosis.

Within minority communities, African American women demonstrate a greater propensity for more aggressive, earlier occurring forms of the disease and have the highest mortality rate among all ethnic groups. Sadly, my creator, Cynethea Cunningham has personally experienced the pain and deep sense of loss that can accompany this condition if not caught in time.  Her sister, Hazel, lost her battle with breast cancer and passed away at the age of thirty-nine, leaving behind four children and a void not easily filled.

Take it from me,Tuti Tender Heart there is reason for hope in the battle against breast cancer (hope of a cure for those suffering now and the hope of prevention for those currently at risk). According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, if detected early, the condition is highly treatable and has a five-year survival rate of nearly one hundred percent. Experts agree that a plan incorporating monthly breast self-exams, regular clinical examinations by trained medical professionals, and annual mammograms for women over forty, can maximize the chances of early detection. Like you, breast cancer's impact on the lives of so many women makes me very sad.  But, with more than two million breast cancer survivors in America today, ongoing medical research in the quest for a cure, and the knowledge that women hold the key to their own survival, I can't help but smile. So, help me to keep smiling and not put on my sad face by scheduling a mammogram today.  Take control!  Be proactive!  Call the National Cancer Institute at 1-800-4-CANCER (1-800-422-6237). For Medicare information, you can call 1-800 MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or visit The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a program called the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program which works with health departments and other groups to provide low-cost or free mammograms to women who qualify. For more information, call your health department, the numbers above or 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636).

Tuti Tender Heart and Tia (a genuine labor of love and treasured messengers of hope) are made to promote Breast Cancer Awareness - dedicated to increasing awareness of the importance of Early Breast Cancer Detection. They wear the color pink to show how much they care about this worthy cause, and when you bring them home a portion of the proceeds from your purchase will be donated to help families in their fight against Breast Cancer! So, bring Tuti Tender Heart and Tia home and help to fund a cause that means so much to so many!
