I am a self-taught artisan and I love being creative. Creativity is my joy and passion. Creativity is a blessing and my gift from God and I love being a blessing to others through this gift I have been given. As a young girl I loved dolls and I liked sewing and making doll clothes. My parents could not afford a sewing machine at that time so I made everything by hand for my dolls just like my mother did for my sister and me when we were growing up. In junior high school I learned to use a sewing machine and made my first wearable outfit that earned me a high score in Home Economics. As a result, my mother made the sacrifice and rewarded me with a portable Singer sewing machine, which opened up a whole new world for me! Later in my life I wanted to create art with fabric and tried different mediums to include framable cloth art, tapestries and a line of Fabric Art Note Cards (Encouragements by Cyne © 1997) with ethnic designs reminiscent of the years I spent in Liberia, West Africa as a Missionary. Each card is individually designed and hand crafted and includes a matching envelope. These note cards are unique in that they can be framed as a special keepsake. In 1989 I discovered doll making, specifically, soft-sculpture cloth dolls, and I just loved it! Making these dolls and seeing the finished product would bring me such joy, but not only did these dolls bring me joy but it seemed that each doll would bring joy to other people as well and that made me feel really good. And since that time doll making has been a creative passion of mine. To highlight the importance of preserving, collecting and showcasing positive images of African-American culture I created a line of one-of-a-kind soft sculpture dolls and clowns (Girlfriends & Fellas © 1991 and Clown Reunion © 1991) for children and collectors that range in sizes from 22 inches to 42 inches. Each doll and clown is unique with clothing and accessories handmade to fit the individual doll or clown using my original pattern. The hair is creatively styled using yarn or synthetic doll hair and the faces are hand drawn or painted. All are made from 100% cotton and stuffed using 100% Polyester Fiberfill. But, the artistry/dolls that presently stand out from all of the rest is my Breast Cancer Awareness Dolls (Tuti Tender-Heart and Tia © 2008 ~ All Rights Reserved) made in loving memory of my sister, Hazel, who lost her battle with Breast Cancer at age 39. My purpose and goal for promoting these dolls in particular is to raise awareness, gather support and help families in their fight against breast cancer ~ a cause that means so much to so many. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to www.allshadesofpink.org helping families in their breast cancer fight and providing Comfort Blankets to breast cancer patients.
